Orchid Isle Orchestera: Bach in Hilo

Orchid Isle Orchestra will be Bach in Hilo on Sunday, May 22, at 4p.m., at the East Hawaii Cultural Center/Hawaii Museum of Contemporary Art. Bach's Double Violin Concerto will be featured. Alden Young returns from his first year of violin study at Boston Conservatory and will join graduating Waiakea High School senior Kayla Rimando as soloists in the first movement. Violin teachers Glenda Johnson and Cathy Young will solo for the second movement. St. Joseph's math teacher Mark Caudill will join Cathy Young in the final movement while guest conductor David MacKenzie leads the accompanying orchestra.

To honor EHCC/HMoCA's chosen theme "Home and Homelessness", the OIO, led by MacKenzie will accompany Elizabeth Young as she sings 'Home' from the musical Beauty and the Beast. Cathy Young will conduct the orchestera in Mussorgsky's 'Hopak" from the comic opera The Fair at Sorochyntsi and a Star Wars medley, both arranged for string orchestra.

The program includes other music by Bach, a fiddleing piece and more. The public is invited to this free concert.
