EHCC Online presents Lecture Series: Confucian Traditions in East Asian Music and the Arts with Larry Butler

Zoom lecture, Thursday, September 23rd at 6:00 PM

This summer the EHCC welcomed the Japanese koto group So-Shin Kai as a collaborator in our musical programs. Inspired by this, our lecturer Dr. Larry Butler invites you to an illustrated Zoom lecture on the Confucian cultural traditions surrounding the traditional musical instruments of East Asia. We will explore the rich heritage of stringed, percussive, and wind instruments and their evolving roles in society over time, through the visual arts, classic texts, and recent archeology. Emphasis will be on the Chinese literati tradition and its links to Japan.

The Zoom lecture is free and open to the public. Please RSVP to [email protected] for the Zoom link by 4:00 PM, September 22nd.
